Stopping Migraines Or Headaches Occurring

Even though there are many kinds of migraines and headaches, the reasons why they occur are common and are generally not too difficult to prevent. If they are a problem for you, try out these natural approaches to curing or preventing them.

First of all, it is worth noting that doctors report that as many as 90% of headaches and migraines are a result of dehydration. This means that drinking water at regular intervals can be enough to prevent the majority of problems. You should also try to stay away from soft drinks and coffee, as these cause you to further dehydrate.

The importance of sleep in relieving just about every kind of pain can not be overlooked. It is vital for remaining calm, relaxed and stress-free, and equally significant in the prevention of migraines and headaches. Everyone needs at least 6 hours sleep a night, with 8 hours being ideal.

Exercise helps prevent migraines and headaches because it lowers stress levels, boosts endorphins, and improves cardiovascular health. Try aerobic exercise in the morning for 15-30 minutes. Keeping it light and easy is ok, as you just need to get your blood cells, which contain oxygen, flowing at an increased rate.

Whilst some foods can actually alleviate migraines and headaches, more foods cause them. Be particularly aware of sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and chocolate, which are problematic for many people. Other foods which cause headaches and migraines are those which you may be unknowingly allergic to, for example, wheat or dairy products. Try to avoid problem foods like these for a couple of weeks and assess whether there is any difference in the amount of headaches and migraines that you have.

These suggestions will not prevent or cure all headaches and migraines, but they will have a significant effect in the majority of cases.
